Privacy Policy – ForkYou.dev
Effective Date: May 11, 2025
At ForkYou.dev, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect, what we don't, and how we use your data.
What We Track
When you install the ForkYou VS Code extension and connect your API key, we collect the following information:
- Time you spent coding
- Programming language used per file
- File name (e.g., app.js, index.html)
- Project folder name (e.g., my-portfolio)
That's all. We do not access or store your actual code.
What We Don't Track
We do not collect, store, or analyze:
- The content of your files
- Your actual code
- Keystrokes or key logs
- Personal files outside your workspace
Your code remains entirely private. We are only interested in the time you spend coding and high-level metadata.
How We Use the Data
The data we collect is used to:
- Calculate your coding activity
- Display your stats on your ForkYou profile
- Rank you on the ForkYou leaderboard
Your stats, such as total time coded and language usage, may be shown on public leaderboards. No private or sensitive data is ever shared.
Data Security
We store your data securely using industry-standard practices. Sensitive information such as passwords is encrypted. Activity logs like coding time, file names, and language data are stored in an access-controlled environment.
All communication between the VS Code extension and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS.
Your Control
You can request your account and data to be deleted at any time. Just contact us at [email protected] and we'll process it promptly.
